For the last 6 months we have been fighting an issue with DNS on our Windows 2003 Server.  We have Active Directory installed, along with DNS and DHCP.  We are on the current service pack (#2), and believe that we have installed of the currently released patches in order to support security.

The problem that we are/were experiencing was that DNS would simply stop responding to requests.  This did not limit itself to our internal users, but our websites would go offline and not be visible on the internet.  In the process of reviewing all  possible data, we started with the system logs (DNS, APPLICATION, IIS, DCHP, SYSTEM, ...).  This search yielded no specific errors that could lead to and isolate the problem and lead to a resolution.

I am sure that myriads of people have figured out how to make Joomla 1.5 Search Engine Friendly (SEF), but in my searching on the internet and in all of the different pages that I read, it seemed that everyone had a different opinion.  Some seemed to get close, others were not so close.

After searching and fighting the problem for several months I have come to the following conclusions:

1. Search Engine Friendly for Joomla 1.5 is definitely doable
2. Your website must be running on Linux or at least Apache (flavor of your choice)
3. The settings ALL must be correct at the same time or else nothing will work
